Resurfacing operations all run the risk of changing the pigment in the skin. It is hard to predict which patients will get these changes and those that will not. These operations work best for people from Northern Europe, who are also the ones who need them the most. Patients with darker skins are often not candidates for these operations but a test of a small area can sometimes be done to see how an individual patient will respond.
