The author began treatment of patients with 2% topical minoxidil 4 weeks before surgery. He stopped it for 3 weeks, and then started it again and continued it for 3 months. In 71% of 64 grafts, partial or total hair grew without the usual shedding seen 2-4 weeks after transplantation. The author feels that topical minoxidil is a useful adjunct after hair transplantation surgery.
