INFORMATION FOR DR. HUDSON'S PATIENTS Nasal packs after rhinoplasty related articles I routinely use packs after rhinoplasty. My view is that their primary purpose is to reduce the adhesions which can form between the incisions inside the nose. I use small vaseline gauze packs which are usually removed between three to five days after surgery. I do not like to remove the pack too soon because it may cause bleeding. Antibiotics are used to reduce the risk of infection If the pack begins to come out early I recommend that it is trimmed with a small pair of scissors but not pushed back in. Sometimes patients worry that they will sneeze out the pack. If this happens there is nothing you can do to put it back in and it may do more harm than good if you try. Packs may come out prematurely if you produce a lot of mucous some patients even swallow their packs. This will not hurt you. Do not hesitate to ask questions.
