The authors believe that striae evolve in a similar way to scars. Most of the collagen bundles in the striae are highly stressed and resemble other scars in which new connective tissue has been reorganized by tension. Striae are readily available and the authors suggest they should be studied further to understand the mechanical and biochemical factors responsible for remodeling of scars.
