At surgery your doctor will probably apply a compression garment. This needs to be worn for several weeks until the swelling and bruising has gone. Some doctors like their patients to use elasticated stockings to reduce the risk of blood clots forming in the legs. If your doctor recommends these make certain that they do not roll up and act as a tourniquet because this will increase the risks of blood clots forming.
