This interesting laboratory study was performed to see if examination was reliable in evaluating the cause of problems with the lower eyelid after a blepharoplasty. Three months after surgery, the results were assessed by a second plastic surgeon and an ophthalmologist. They were unable to determine which problems were due to scar and which due to excessive skin removal. They did feel that muscle removal did not contribute much to the lower lid position.
