Unfortunately, at this stage many parents are not concerned about the position and appearance of their infant's ears. breast reduction done with liposuction
An alternative to traditional breast reduction is to reduce the volume of breast tissue using liposuction. This has the advantage of much less scarring and may be more likely to preserve the ability to breast feed. Both of these are especially important for younger patients. In this technique either traditional liposuction or ultrasonic liposuction is used to reduce the fat of the breast. A small incision is used , often in the crease under the breast. It is not uncommon to remove almost 1000 cc from each breast. Skin envelope contraction may be more significant than was previously thought, especially if superficial suctioning close to the skin is performed. Up to 6 cms(over two inches) of elevation have been recorded. The benefits may include fewer complications, reduced recovery time, better sensation and reduced scarring.

After surgery a collection of serum beneath the skin is called a seroma
Sometimes after an abdominoplasty or liposuction serum is produced beneath the skin. This leads to a collection of fluid called a seroma. This fluid will not clot and contains albumin, fat and red blood cells. It is clear and yellow in color. A seroma is usually noticed about 7-10 days after surgery and a few days after drains are removed. It is seen as a swelling in the area undermined at surgery. It is more common in the lower abdomen than the upper. Patients often say they can feel fluid under the skin. When they move it is not uncommon to feel this fluid move as well.

The most common method is the use of implants. These have been used since the early 1960s. The first implant was made of silicone and introduced in 1964. Silicone gel implants are the "gold standard" by which other methods are judged. They feel more natural and are less likely to ripple or wrinkle than saline implants. Although they have the problems of any implant such as capsular formation, the association with autoimmune illness has not been confirmed by long term studies.

Drains after cosmetic surgery.
It is common to use a drain if there is a significant risk of bleeding or fluid collection (seroma) after cosmetic surgery. There are two types of drain.
Passive drains, commonly made of soft rubber, channel fluid to the outside of the body. The surgeon often shortens the drain over several days.
Active drains are connected to a suction. In the hospital this is usually a vacuum on the wall. Outside the hospital the drain is connected to a small palm sized device that is emptied at regular intervals. When it is emptied, compression using a vacuum is re-established so that continuous pressure is placed on the drain.
